    Course Overview

The tutorial is an excellent overview of how to approach an illustration from start to end. It will take you from designing the character with silhouette all the way to polishing and fine-tuning of the finished illustration.

Aside from the overview process of my approach to character design and illustration, the tutorial covers as much information about material, lighting, and rendering as possible, as it takes you through different stages of the illustration.

    Highlights 1

I will take you from designing the character with silhouette all the way to polishing and fine tuning of the finished illustration.

    Highlights 2

The tutorial touches on many of the obstacles that I ran into myself. If you are having trouble with artist blocks, creative approaches, and understanding values, and colors, this tutorial will be helpful to you.

    Highlights 3

Different from many tutorials demonstrating the actions the artists take and the tools they use to achieve certain things, I try to share my thought process and the reasoning behind every action I take as much as possible so you will understand why I approach certain areas with specific methods.

    Creative Art Director

I am an art nerd that seeks to improve myself all the time. It comes with its pros and cons because I love doing all things artistic and end up spreading myself too thin sometimes. Aside from that, in my spare time, I enjoy doing some video gaming and really trying to avoid a beer belly by training diligently in the gym!

And then we will start to create some thumbnails and get some inspiration and be inspired by different shapes. 2. Line Sketch and Composition Right after that, we will start to draw out the character shape to define the final looks. And then we move to composition, to think about the scene composition by drawing thumbnail. Once we find the composition we wanted, and then we put our character to into the scene. 3. Value, Local color and light When the composition is defined, we start to discuss the value, color, lighting. First, we'll figure out the value and find out the focal point of the illustration. And then we start to put colors on the character. 4. Rendering Finally, we will polish everything that we have made. We'll first start to polish the illustration generally and then dive into the material polish. After that, we improve the city and the environment around the character to make everything match. In the end, we'll create FX to level up the final result.

    Q&A

Q: Is there any project file provided for the tutorial?

There is a full PSD tutorial provided as well as a Pure Reference file that contains all of my reference images. I will also provide the brush sets that I used to complete the illustration. Disclaimer: I do not own the brush sets, it’s a collection of brushes that have been shared by different artists in the past.

Q: What do I need to do before learning this tutorial?

I would suggest that you strengthen some foundation in drawing and constructing figures/environments as this is a tutorial that does not cover that. Understanding how to draw different objects in perspective will bring you much closer to the desired results.

Q: Can I download the videos?

For IP protection, all the video can only be watched online. Learners need to use a software provided by Wingfox to watch the videos.

Q: What are the payment methods?

You can choose full payment or installment payment after subscription. (Note: Installment payment will cause service fees. At the same time, you can only watch the class under the current subscription. If you cancel the subscription, you can’t watch the following classes.)

Q: Who is the target audience of the tuorial?

This tutorial is aimed for students with basic to intermediate skills. It should help them connect the dots on many things they have learnt before but unsure how to properly apply them through out an illustration.

Q: What can I benefit the most from the tutorial?

The tutorial touches on many of the obstacles that I ran into myself. This tutorial should prove quite helpful for students having trouble with artist blocks, creativity approaches and understanding values and colors.
